Twelve hours, two causes, one goal
12 hours. Two causes. One goal.
That’s the challenge for Henry Ascoli from Haslemere, who is set to tackle a 12-hour spinathon at Petersfield’s Positive Lifestyle Health Club this Sunday (17th January), in aid of Diabetes UK and Mind.
Explaining the inspiration behind the challenge, Henry said: “I wanted to support causes with a personal connection, and rather than signing up for an existing charity challenge, organise my own local event.
“Fitness and health have always been important to me, and shaped every aspect of my life. This was the motivation and theme for my challenge. Those affected by diabetes and mental health issues ultimately live their life around their condition - every day presents a challenge in one way or another.
“My girlfriend is Type 1 diabetic, and seeing her and how it affects every aspect of her life inspired me to do something to raise awareness. I’ve also seen some of my family and friends suffer with depression and mental health issues.
“Both charities carry out vital work across the UK every day, but I believe that improving awareness and understanding is just as important - if not more so - than raising money.”
The event will be split into 12 sessions of 45-50 minutes, so anyone who wishes to take part can book for as many sessions as they wish, with no charge - only donations. There will also be a raffle on the day, with prizes from local businesses.
