Whether you’re looking for an action-packed day out or a chance to enjoy the simple pleasures of spring, there are plenty of local events and activities perfect for all the family this Easter…
The south coast’s family amusement park, Funland on Hayling Island is a great day out, with fun-packed rides including the Super Dragon rollercoaster, Cannibal Pots, dodgems and Jurassic Safari. There’s also an arcade, bowling and seaside train to keep the kids amused all day long.
Up in Alton, there’s a chance to meet Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends at the Watercress Line. Come and experience a ride on a real steam engine, shake hands with The Fat Controller and take part in Thomas-themed activities in the Imagination Station. The Watercress Line runs for 10 miles through the beautiful Hampshire countryside between Alresford and Alton.
For a day of discovery, pay a visit to Gilbert White’s House and the Oates Collection in Selborne, which celebrates the life and work of pioneering 18th century naturalist Rev Gilbert White, who is remembered as the first ecologist and ‘the man who started us all bird watching’. You can also learn about the life and work of 19th century explorer Frank Oates, one of the first Europeans to journey to Africa and the Americas. If the weather is on your side, you can explore the beautiful garden, and stop off for a slice of home-made cake and a pot of freshly-brewed tea in the idyllic tea room.
And if Easter is about the simple pleasures, good food and great company, why not take a trip to The Chairmakers? Surrounded by rolling fields and historic buildings, this charming pub in World’s End, Hambledon, offers a perfect chance to relax in the beautiful Hampshire countryside.
