Grateful family fundraise for hospital
A grateful family from Leigh Park have raised £2,680.88 towards cancer research projects at Cosham’s Queen Alexandra (QA) Hospital.
The money was raised through a family fun day at King Richards School, and an exhilarating skydive, completed by six members of the family.
The overall donation has been used to purchase an important Qubit 3 machine for the Research Department, which reveals how much DNA is in a patient’s sample. These samples are then used to test for disease markers, allowing patients access to treatment and drugs.
This machine gives 100% test results and provides confidence in results that the patients will receive the best drugs.
The family had decided to fundraise for the research projects on behalf of their late Mother Mandy Fewings, who was treated for lung cancer at QA. Mandy had started to organise the family fun day to help benefit current and future patients, but sadly passed away in February.
Vicky Barker, Mandy’s daughter, said: “We are proud to help such an important cause and one which is so close to our hearts. We will continue to fundraise for the Department, and are in the process of organising another family fun day and we have booked on to Portsmouth Hospitals Charity’s skydive next June.”
