Kitesurfing Armada at Hayling Island

From 9-11 June, Hayling Island will be holding the unique kitesurfing festival run by The Virgin Kitesurfing Armada. For the 5th year running, the event will bring the kitesurfing and local communities together to kitesurf, eat, drink, listen to great music and break Guinness World Records all in the name of charity.

Throughout the weekend there will be lots going on on the water and plenty of time to join in with kitesurfing. After the event successfully broke a Guinness World Record last year with 423 kitesurfers travelling a mile together, this year the event is aiming to beat this by bringing 500 kitesurfers together! The new attempt will take place on either the Saturday or Sunday depending on the wind.

The Armada Trust supports youth charities, overseas charities and rescue charities and has raised over £160,000 to date. This year’s charity challenge is the Kite SUP Run.

The plan is to start with the new Guinness World Record Challenge – to kite one mile, then when landed on the beach begin a run in your wetsuit one mile back to the festival. When you arrive back to the beach a SUP will be waiting for you to jump on and paddle back to the finish and your gear. Fancy getting involved? Just set yourself a £100 fundraising target and your kitesurfing ticket and rash vest will be free!

If you don’t fancy kitesurfing, fear not! There is still plenty to do during the weekend festivities. Why not pick up some great deals from top brands, listen to live outdoor music, attend fantastic talks from professionals and industry experts or visit the health spa run by Nuffield Health for a dip in their hot tubs. Make sure to delve into the delicious food on offer and wash it all down with a summer cocktail created by the Bug Bar team or a local beer or ale from Harvey’s Bar. If you’ve got little ones, don’t worry there is plenty to keep them entertained in The Family Zone.

The doors to the festival open at 11am on the Friday and entrance is free, although it is advisable to make a charity donation on the door.
