Early Christmas Present For Drivers In Alton And Petersfield - The Directory Group

Early Christmas present for drivers in Alton and Petersfield

Christmas has come early for shoppers who will now be able to park their cars for free.

The East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) is offering the free space in a move to boost local businesses for the festive season.

Free parking will be available for up to three hours on selected days in December. Petersfield and Alton council owned car parks will benefit from the decision.

December 2nd and 3rd will be the first dates to see drivers reaping the benefits.

The district councils portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and housing, Ingrid Thomas, says this is an idyllic time to give away free parking.

They said: “This length of time gives people the chance to come and see what our towns have to offer without worrying about parking fees and maximises the number of people able to enjoy themselves here.

“We aim to be one of the UK’s most business friendly councils and this free parking scheme will be a welcome boost to many of our shops and stores, as well as the visiting festival traders, during one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.”

EHDC parking meters will be altered on the December dates. Drivers are encouraged to still read and understand their terms and conditions during this change.
