Changes to appointments system at Cowplain doctors come into force

Important changes to the appointments system at a Cowplain doctors came into force last month.

The Oaks Healthcare group, who manage Cowplain Family Practice and Queenswood Surgery have implemented the changes after receiving feedback from many of their patients.

Those using the services say the GPs walk-in model was sometimes very lengthy and requested the convenience of booked appointments.

Therefore, the management have implemented a new system whereby both walk-in and booked appointments will provide flexibility to patients.

It is also hoped the change will ensure the doctors are working within safe limits.

The walk-in system will continue as before so those who use the services can come in when their registered GP is on duty.

Changes to the time have been enforced with the closure of the walk-in at 10am.

Those who attend the walk-in session and does not have their registered GP scheduled to be on duty will be asked if their requirements is a medical emergency that cannot wait.

If this is the case, then their duty team will support once they have seen their own patients.

Their website states: “We are aware that this will be a change for our patients, but GPs are becoming increasingly busy as you have no doubt noticed when you have attended the surgery recently.

“Please also consider whether any other members of the practice team can deal with your problem such as our Advanced Nurse Practitioner or our nursing or health care assistants.”
