Petersfield Couple Celebrate 70th Wedding Anniversary
The couple James, 94 and Deirdre 91 have been married longer than the Queen and Prince Phillip!
The pair tied the knot at Burwash Common, East Sussex, in 1948 a year after meeting at a dance!
When it comes to maintaining a long marriage, James has four words of advice, ‘always say, yes, dear’.
“It's not always been easy, especially as I used to work as a submariner. We rarely stayed in the same place for long, which could be difficult at times”.
After living in Soberton, Havant, Scotland and Norway the pair have eventually settled down in Petersfield with three children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
To celebrate the couple’s platinum wedding anniversary, the family organised a party which included several old friends. On the day of the anniversary, they visited Chichester Festival Theatre to see ‘Me and My Girl’ which Deirdre last saw with her parents when she was ten.
The couple has recently planned a cruise to the Caribbean in a yacht, which they are looking forward to!
