The Starlight Escapes are just one of the ways Starlight aim to preserve childhood through serious illness. There will be interview opportunities with both Starlight spokespeople and families. All the information is available in the attached and below. Please do let me know if you would be interested in covering the event?
WHEN: Wednesday 7th August 2019, 12.00pm – 16.00pm
WHERE: Popham Airfield, Coxford Down, Winchester SO21 3BD
WHAT: The annual event put on by Starlight Children’s Foundation for the families they work with, at the Popham Airfield. On the day, children will get the opportunity to go for a ride in a plane, helicopter, hoover craft, cars and bikes! As well as arts and crafts and music. (this is a private event for the local children and families that Starlight work with)
Spokespeople: Krutika Pau, Director of Children’s Services at Starlight.
Families and Children: Families who have recently had wishes granted for them by Starlight.
Starlight is a national children’s charity whose aim is to preserve childhood throughout serious illness. The right to play for children is enshrined in the UN Charter for Children’s Rights and access to play during serious illness is especially important as a contributor to successful treatment and healthy development.
Starlight enable families to escape the reality and routine of treatment. The services provided contribute to positive development through childhood even during treatment and hospital stays; and provide families with valuable opportunities to meet a social network of people with shared experience.
The Starlight “Escapes” are just one of the services provided. They are a series of events including a Christmas Party at Downing Street, a summer fete style party and the Popham event! The parties give families a day off from treatment, the opportunity to have fun and to make friendships with other families sharing similar experiences all in a safe space, all without the responsibility of organising it for themselves. A simple day out that offers families something to look forward to, where they can create happy memories together.
