Do you have a couple of hours a week and want to support a family facing challenges?

Home-Start Butser has been recruiting and training volunteers to befriend and support local families with children under five for over 20 years.

Home-Start volunteers visit families at home each week, supporting parents in situations as diverse as isolation, mental health issues, bereavement, family breakdown, illness, multiple births, or who are just finding parenting a struggle. They provide non-judgemental practical and emotional support and help to build the family’s confidence and ability to cope.

“Knowing that someone cares is wonderful. The feeling of loneliness and despair disappears entirely.”

Our next weekly Preparation Course to train new volunteers begins in October. Supervision, support, and out of pocket expenses are provided during the training and whilst a volunteer is supporting families. The only requirement is parenting experience. We are also keen to recruit fathers and grandfathers as well as parents from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
