An Evening with the Vikings: Music, Mead and Storytelling
IT’S TIME TO PARTY WITH THE VIKINGS!
ENJOY a cup of mead and a good story with your ancestors this September at Butser Ancient Farm in Clanfield.
Hampshire based Anglo Saxon reenactment group, Herigeas Hundas, will joined by the Vikings of Wuffa Reenactment Society for the evening on Saturday 21st September and are inviting members of the public to join them for An Evening with the Vikings: Music, Mead and Storytelling.
Guests will have the opportunity to spend the evening around the fire of the farm’s largest roundhouse, sat amongst mighty warriors and skilled ancient craftsmen and women dressed in their finery to listen to tales of the Sagas and music using traditional instruments.
Herigeas Hundas Group Leader, Rich Bonner said: ‘We are very excited to be at Butser Ancient Farm for this brand new event.
‘Visitors will be able to join us around the fire, share a drink of mead and listen to tales of the ancients and some songs from our Saxon musicians, Helagást.
‘This is a unique opportunity for guests to get involved with a Viking and Saxon celebration and to sit amongst history for the night.’
With special performances of the Norse Saga’s and Myths from talented storytellers, there will also be music from the musicians from the Anglo Saxon group, Herigeas Hundas.
There will also be the chance for guests to get involved with the music themselves to close what promises to be an exciting evening.
Butser Ancient Farm’s Creative Developer, Rachel Bingham said: ‘We are very excited for this brand new event which promises to be an unforgettable and atmospheric evening around the fire in our great roundhouse.
‘To sit amongst the warriors of Herigeas Hundas and Wuffa Vikings and listen in to their stories and music will be a very special experience indeed.’
Butser Ancient Farm offers a unique experimental archaeology site nestled into the rolling countryside of the South Downs National Park and features reconstructions of Stone Age, Iron Age, Roman Britain and the Anglo-Saxon period.
An Evening with the Vikings: Mead, Music and Storytelling will be from 7pm - 9pm on Saturday 21st September. Tickets, priced at £15 each are available through the Buster Ancient Farm website or, capacity depending, at the Visitor Centre before the event.
