Ship inn rafts race for the Hayling RNLI Lifeboats

Dazzling mermaids clashed with pirates, Thunderbird Poo crew, the Langstone Ma a, Dexy’s Midnight Rowers and the RNLI Chickens in the annual Langstone Ship Inn Raft Race.

On a perfect Saturday in July ten crews assembled with their various rafts at The Ship Inn Langstone, who organised the race in aid of the Hayling RNLI. Both lifeboats attended the event along with hundreds of supporters and friends, all out to have a good time. Prior to the start the rafts and crew were judged to choose the best dressed raft.

At the start most rafts got away well but the group of ex-Army guys, dressed in shtail skirts and bikini tops found their raft was very unstable and so the ‘mermaids’ had an early swim! The early leaders were the Hook Family (pictured) who never looked back and they were the overall winner. Mustang came in second featuring a team from the Hayling Joggers and the two RNLI chickens were third.

Thanking Mark Dawson, General Manager of The Ship Inn, Alan Bartlett RNLI Press O cer said, ‘This is a great event and well supported this year. It’s good to see the support for the RNLI and we look forward to putting the money raised to good use.
