Gunwharf vowes to make shopping experience more autism-friendly

GUNWHARF QUAYS AUTISM WEEK

To mark the recent World Autism Week, Gunwharf Quays has vowed to become more autism-friendly within its retail experience.

Last year, the shopping centre introduced several new features to make their space more accessible. These included quiet hours each week, and sensory toys, and a guide to the centre.

Within the next year, Gunwharf is aiming to introduce:

·       Autism training for staff, created by Autism Hampshire

·       Downloadable ‘social stories’ which will enable guests to familiarise themselves with the space and feel of the Shopping centre prior to their visit.

·       A pledge to work towards obtaining the ‘Autism Friendly’ Award given by the National Autistic Society (NAS)

Guest Services Manager Jay Wood said: “We are always looking for new ways to ensure that all our guests have the best possible experience when visiting the centre.”
