Rowans Hospice invites community to join them in ‘Going the Extra Mile

Rowans Hospice Nursing Staff and Volunteers are currently embarking on a virtual journey to the other side of the world by ‘Going the Extra Mile’ and raising vital funds for the Charity. They are on a mission to collectively complete 2,700 miles, reaching all the way to the Albany Community Hospice in Australia. The team is excited to extend an invitation to the entire community, encouraging everyone to be part of their endeavour. Whether you are passionate about running, cycling, walking, yoga, tennis, swimming, rowing, or kitesurfing, any time taking part in activities will count towards the Challenge and make a difference to local Hospice care! To track and record contributions, a Strava group has been set up: Here, participants can log both the miles they have completed and the active minutes they have invested in their chosen activities. Every 10 minutes of exercise will be counted as 1 kilometre, bringing ‘Team Rowans’ one step closer to bridging the gap between England and Australia. The 'Going the Extra Mile' Challenge represents the final leg of the 'Make a Pledge for Local Hospice Care' Campaign, which aims to raise vital funds Rowans Hospice, allowing them to operate three additional bedrooms for one year. Funds are collected via the dedicated Just Giving page, The 'Make a Pledge for Local Hospice Care' Campaign aims to raise £300,000 for Rowans Hospice, and was first launched in September 2023: With the enormous rise in operating costs over the last two years across utilities, staffing and food, Rowans is currently struggling to meet the increasing need for their Services. The £300,000 would cover the cost of running three additional bedrooms for one year, allowing the team of specialist palliative care doctors, nurses and other clinical professionals to provide over 1,000 extra days of care for up to 80 additional patients. Join Rowans Hospice on their extraordinary adventure where every step, pedal, stroke, or moment of exercise brings them closer to completing 2,700 miles.
