Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Know Your Normal

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – a time to raise awareness, encourage people to look after their health and remind us all of the importance of knowing our own bodies.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, but finding changes early can make a significant difference. Breast cancer can affect people of all ages, so it’s important to be aware of what is normal for you.
There is no single way that breasts should look or feel. Get to know your own breasts and look out for changes such as a new lump or swelling, a change in size or shape, changes to the skin or nipple, unusual discharge, or persistent pain in the breast or armpit.
If you notice something that isn't normal for you, don't ignore it. Contact your GP and get it checked. Most breast changes are not cancer, but it is always better to seek professional advice.
Breast screening also plays an important role in detecting breast cancer, sometimes before there are any noticeable symptoms. If you are invited for screening, make sure you attend or speak to your healthcare team if you have questions.
This October, let's talk about breast health, support those affected by breast cancer and encourage our friends and family to know their normal.
Check. Talk. Don't delay.
