RACE WITH ROWAN

Once again there is a choice of a 5k fun run with an optional fancy dress or a 10k timed road and trail race to suit the more serious club runner. The fun run is open to everyone and the 10k is open to runners over 16 years old. Both routes start and finish from Portsmouth Watersports Centre, Eastern Road and take you along the coastal path of Langstone Harbour and nature reserve. The 10k will start at 10am with the 5k starting shortly afterwards.

Sophie Gunner, Fundraiser at The Rowans Hospice, said: “Everyone can join in with this event, from family fun-runners to the more seasoned athlete, with a choice of two routes. Whether this is your first running event or you want to improve your personal best time, this race will be great fun and will help raise vital funds for The Rowans Hospice. It is also a perfect opportunity to use this event as a warm-up for longer distances like the Brighton or London Marathons or Great South Run later in the year.

“If you’re in need of a little more encouragement, you can join our free Rowan’s Running Group on Wednesdays at 6pm, meeting in The Rowans Hospice car park on Purbrook Heath Road. Even if you have never run before you are very welcome to come along.”

Participants can find out more and register online via www.rowanshospice.co.uk, or call Fundraising on 023 9223 7142. Registration for the 5k fun run is £10 for adults and £5 for children. Registration for the10k is £13 for affiliated club runners and £15 for non-affiliated runners. Entries can be taken on the day but will incur a £2 surcharge on all entry fees. All participants are asked to try and raise as much sponsorship as possible with a suggested target of £100.
