The Directory Group celebrate
It’s 10 years since we launched the Petersfield Directory, as it was known. That’s a decade of generating local business for local businesses.
It reached 1,200 homes in Petersfield, but since then, The Directory Group (TDG) – as we’re now known – has grown to cover an amazing nine areas, across Hampshire and West Sussex, with a monthly distribution of 89,500.
When I launched TDG, I was working from home, mixing the sales, design and accounting of the Directory, with raising four children and walking our dog, Oscar.
Within two years we’d rented an office near the town’s lake, and I had employed my first two staff as the team started to grow. We stayed there for 7 years as we continued to go from strength to strength. In July 2014, we purchased our own building: a 5,500ft2 unit in Petersfield – both office and distribution centre – which was perfect for the nine staff and more than 200 committed distributors.
The move enabled us to expand further and we launched Leaflet Distribution Direct Ltd, the most efficient and cost-effective leaflet distribution service in the region. Leaflets, menus or flyers, we can deliver them quickly and cost effectively anywhere: Portsmouth, Fareham, Chichester, Winchester … you name the area we can help.
Our success can’t be put down to just one thing. Yes, our creative team produces striking graphics and eye-catching advertising copy to ensure your message is told in the best way. Yes, we’re the only local advertising media to deliver your business through letterboxes every month. And yes, our team is focused on one common goal – to win local businesses more customers.
But I’m proud to say there’s more than that: we care! We care about the communities we work in. From promoting small local events, to helping new businesses take that first step towards winning more local business, we really do go all out to ensure we are at the heart of our local communities.
We have helped raise money and awareness for many good causes over the years, including Faith & Football, Children in Need, Cancer Research, Smile 4 Wessex, Rowans Hospice and the Rainbow Centre. And we were delighted to recently receive a special award for a ‘valuable contribution’ to the community.
Morally, we would not sell anything to anyone if we did not believe it would work and we would never allow anybody to advertise with us if we wouldn’t allow them to visit our parents’ homes.
In 10 years we have helped almost 1,100 local companies win more business – and the ethos has been the same since day one: a passion to create more business for local companies.
I still love coming to work every day. Our customers appreciate all the effort we put in for them and we have great relationships with them all. I feel very proud of how TDG has evolved and I would like to thank everyone – staff, customers and our great readers who have supported it.
Here’s to the next 10 years
