ALTON IN BLOOM –community competition!!!
The sun is shining and the skies are blue – perfect weather to get out into your gardens and enjoy nature. The local ‘Alton in Bloom’ competition deadline has now been extended to the 26th June for entries, so there’s still time to join in the community spirit and take part!
There are several categories this year, you can enter one or all if you wish!!! Please contact Emily-Jane Messenger at Alton Town Council to enter on (01420) 83986, email email@example.com or complete an entry from available from the Town Hall, Market Square, Alton.
The categories this year are:
Best small front garden (under 5m)
Best large front garden
Best domestic basket, tub, window box or patio
Best residential premises
Best individual bloom (must be accessible to judges)
Best planted unusual container
Best school children’s garden – (1) pre-school (2) school
Best commercial premises (licensed, restaurants, shops etc.)
Get creative with your children/grandchildren and make a scarecrow to enter at the annual Horticultural Society Summer Show which is taking place at the Alton Assembly Rooms on Sat 27th June. The competition is open to children aged 11 years or under, please note plastic face masks are not allowed.
Tallest Sunflower Competition!
To give your sunflowers chance to reach their optimum height the deadline for entering this category is the 31st August and judges will visit you by appointment to photograph & measure their height.
Preparations are continuing for our entries into this year’s regional ‘South East In Bloom’ competition as the town prepares for the arrival of this year’s judging. The lamp post baskets are up along with dozens of hanging baskets outside many local businesses in the town centre – all reflecting this year’s patriotic red, white & blue colour scheme
