Carol concert in the heart of the city
More than 1,000 local schoolchildren will be taking part in Portsmouth City Council's schools' christmas carol concert on Monday (7th December), from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
Local residents are welcome to join in as the children, from over 30 schools across the city, sing on the Guildhall steps.
The free annual event will include a visit from Father Christmas, who will greet the children and mingle with the audience.
The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Frank Jonas will switch on the lights on the Guildhall Square Christmas tree at the beginning of the event.
Music will come from the Salvation Army Portsmouth Citadel Band, with the Portsmouth Music Service conducting the schools.
Each school has been asked to donate two presents, which will be collected by Santa's elf at the event and later given out to disadvantaged children across the city.
A competition was held to design the front cover of the programme for the concert. The winner was Sadie Wilson, from Wimborne Junior School. A selection of front cover designs will be shown during the event on the Big Screen in the square.
