Serving up festive spirit
A café in Leigh Park will be dishing up free Christmas lunches to elderly residents and the homeless who would otherwise spend the day alone in effort to tackle loneliness.
The idea was inspired by an elderly customer at Memory Lane Café, who told owners Debbie and Ian Payne she would be spending the day alone.
Ian said: “We never seem to think of the real meaning of Christmas, to think about other people we just seem to forget. We have completely lost that feeling of helping each other, it has become very commercial.”
Guests at the lunch can expect a Christmas lunch with all the trimmings as well as fun and laughter.
Debbie and Ian are calling on Leigh Park residents to donate a gift so that those who would normally go without a gift can receive a present while at the lunch.
