Helping those most in need
Havant food bank is at the heart of a new campaign to help tackle food poverty.
The Guinness Partnership joined forces with food bank charity The Trussell Trust for ‘Food Sense’, a new initiative which aims to raise awareness and improve understanding of food poverty issues in local communities.
Volunteers from the housing association are working closely with the Beacon food bank in the Meridian Centre helping with essential items, Christmas hampers and fundraisers to help those in need of assistance.
Food banks provide crucial short-term relief for families and in the past year The Trussell Trust, which runs around 420 food banks across the UK, handed out emergency supplies to more than a million people, including children.
The Guinness Partnership has also worked with frugal food blogger ‘Thrifty Lesley’ to suggest ideas for healthy, delicious meals on a budget. See www.thriftylesley.com for more details.
