Bright future for busy community centre

A bright future is in store for Hayling Community Centre, which has successfully passed two stages of a National Lottery bid towards an extension.

Following confirmation of the third and final stage of the bid this month, building work can begin. The extension will provide a ground floor café area, a first floor space for meeting rooms, extra toilet facilities and a disabled lift.

More than £24,000 has been raised so far through the community centre’s Buy a Brick scheme. Each brick costs £10, and every donor will receive a certificate and their name featured on a roll of honour in the new extension. If you would like to buy a brick and be part of the centre's legacy, pop into the centre, call 023 9246 7562 or go to www.hicca.co.uk

Meanwhile, enthusiastic volunteers from across the local area are being sought to join the community centre’s team.

The busy centre hosts a range of activities throughout the year, including coffee mornings, coach trips and outings.

Volunteers would be involved in keeping the centre running smoothly during their duty period, including dealing with enquiries, issuing receipts and recording takings, serving at the snack bar and answering the telephone. In particular, the community centre is seeking to cover shifts after 3pm and at weekends, of roughly two hours.

Training and supervision will be provided until the volunteer is happy and confident to be working alone.
