Sharing Skills - The Directory Group

Sharing skills

The humble shed is being hailed as the simple solution for older people to socialise and share skills.

Communities across the local area are signing up for the Men’s Shed movement, with roughly 30 groups in the Portsmouth area.

Many more are being planned for communities including Cosham and Hayling Island, and a new southern network met up for the first time last month.

Plus, members of Gosport Men’s Shed, joined by Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage, recently made the trip to 10 Downing Street to ask for Prime Minister David Cameron’s support in providing the group with a permanent base.

The movement started in Australia in the 1990s and has since spread across the world as a way for older people to socialise, do activities and build things –a place of leisure where men come together to work.

The next meeting of the southern network will take place on Tuesday 19th April in Havant.
