Pride and patriotism
St George’s Day celebrations are set to take centre stage at the heart of the Emsworth community.
On Thursday 21st April, 12 Regiment RA (Imjin Battery), accompanied by Thorney Island and Emsworth Primary Schools, will lead a parade down Emsworth High Street, starting at 10.30am. There will also be street entertainment from the George Regis Jazz Band.
The ‘Imjin Rose’, also known as the Emsworth Rose was presented to the Imjin Battery and all the veterans marching in the parade, and honours the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Imjin River in the Korean War.
Further emphasising the community’s military connections, on Saturday 23rd April scores of local fundraisers, accompanied by their dogs, are embarking on a walk around Thorney Island in aid of local charity Hounds for Heroes, starting at 11am.
Participants have the opportunity to meet the Hounds for Heroes team while enjoying light refreshments at St Nicholas’ Church.
Hounds for Heroes provide specially-trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of both the UK Armed Forces and Emergency Services.
