Action packed

A typically action-packed month of arts and entertainment is in prospect across the Alton area, with a wealth of theatre, music and comedy ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

On Tuesday 5th April, Farnham Maltings welcomes York Theatre Royal in their Olivier award-winning production of The Railway Children, before theatre maltings take to the stage later in the week to perform ‘Swing’, a new play comedy by Fishamble, about dancing and music and love. With rock and roll music, it’ll make you want to dance…

Expect plenty of laughs and a packed audience in the cellar bar at the Maltings’ ever-popular stand-up comedy club on Wednesday 13th April, as Off the Kerb Productions presents Tom Deacon - one of the hottest young comedians and a regular at the club. Also performing is the instant likeable Charlie Baker and the seasoned professional Rob Rouse – a popular feature on the UK circuit.

Winchester Discovery Centre plays host to “a celebration of everyday maleness” on Thursday 7th April in ‘Manpower’ - a show about aspirations and expectations, determination and discovery, vulnerability and sheer hard work by Total Theatre Award winners Two Destination Language.

One of opera’s greatest romances takes centre stage at Theatre Royal Winchester on Thursday 21st April as the critically-acclaimed Swansea City Opera return by popular demand to perform Puccini’s La Bohème.

The Slightly to the Left theatre company will be paying a visit to Bordon’s Phoenix Theatre on Friday 15th April, as part of their first tour performing ‘Caught off Guard’. Be prepared to laugh like you've never laughed before, cry like you’ve never cried before, and to sit in your chair like you've never... well, you get the idea!

Rounding off an eclectic line-up of April entertainment, bastions of the beloved Test Match Special Henry Blofeld and Peter Baxter take to the stage at the Phoenix Theatre on Friday 29th April in ‘Rogues on the Road’ - a brand new show crammed full of even more wonderful - and occasionally outrageous - reminiscences and anecdotes from two extensive careers spent broadcasting around the globe.
