No better place
The iconic setting of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is set to host the new Solent Marine Academy.
The unique Highbury College academy, based in Boathouse 4, starts in September 2016, offering the opportunity for students to study for a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Marine Engineering, with the benefit of purpose-built classrooms and workshops.
Would-be apprentices and their families flocked to a special launch event to learn more about the exciting new opportunities available, tour the fabulous building and receive one-to-one completing their applications.
During the two-year programme, students will study boat building, mathematics, mechanics, electronics, health & safety and communications, along with computer aided design, business, welding and electrical installations.
Highbury College principal Stella Mbubaegbu said: “I don’t think there is a better place in the world to be doing this kind of course than Portsmouth.
“It is such a great naval city, with sailing and historic links, this is the right place – in the historic dockyard. It is magical and we are absolutely thrilled.”
