Inspired to make a difference
A local handyman is preparing to swap his van for a bike in a bid to boost awareness for a cause close to his heart.
Gary Milton, who is 49 and lives in Waterlooville, is currently training for a 200-mile bike ride in aid of Spica Warrior, the UK’s only developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) dedicated charity.
DDH occurs when the hip socket doesn’t form correctly and left undiagnosed this silent condition can lead to a life of pain, disability and hip replacements.
On Monday 11th September, Gary will pedal the Grand Union Canal towpath from Birmingham to Brentford via Northampton, Aylesbury, Wendover and Slough.
“Whilst many children, and adults, have DDH, there is a lack of awareness and support for the condition that has debilitated one of my closest friends,” Gary explained. “There’s no doubt this is going to be a tough challenge but knowing I’ll be making a difference to the lives of the families Spica Warrior work with, will keep me going.”
