A striking new mural marks the culmination of years of hard work to bring a cheerful new look to Hayling Island’s Mengham Play Park.
Current mayor of Havant Leah Turner, Cllr Andy Lenaghan and PC Debbie Surridge set up the charity Play Parks For Hayling, asking children on the island how they could improve things for them.
Their wish was to have better play parks, and the first on the list was Mengham Park, off Norman Road - completed last year.
Thanks to funding from South East Hampshire Community Outlook (SEHCO) through the Big Lottery, students from Hayling College submitted ideas, and internationally-acclaimed artist Keith K Hopewell chose 18 to paint, then spent an entire weekend creating the 45ft-long mural.
Cllr Turner said: “I am delighted with this wonderful mural which is a result of joint working between Havant Borough Council, PP4H and SEHCO. It certainly finishes off the refurbishment of Mengham Play Park beautifully.”
