Breakfast club gives youngsters a great start
Havant MP Alan Mak paid a visit to Purbrook Junior School to learn how its popular breakfast club gives pupils a great start to the day.
The breakfast club, which opens at 7.45am every weekday, provides children with a safe and secure environment to enjoy a breakfast each morning, along with activities such as arts and crafts, table tennis, skittles and outdoor ball games.
After an initial start-up grant from Kellogg’s, the club has also received vouchers for free cereal, and the school is a member of the Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Network, which gives schools access to free training, newsletters and donations.
Headteacher Mr C Williams said: “We are very proud of our long-standing breakfast club and the benefits that we can provide to our pupils at Purbrook Junior School. Our club allows children to start their day on time, feeling calm and ready to learn. We have even seen an improvement in pupils’ concentration in the classroom as a result.”
