The beautiful game
Young sporting stars from Hayling Island took to the pitch for the final time this season, before earning acclaim in a prize-giving ceremony.
For the second year running, local MP Alan Mak attended Hayling St Andrews FC’s end of season event as guest of honour, witnessing some stellar performances by local youngsters in a round-robin tournament before presenting more than 100 trophies to local youngsters aged from 7 to 11.
The Presentation Day also encompassed a picnic for players and their families, before concluding with a fundraising raffle and auction, with all proceeds donated to local causes.
Hayling St Andrews has played for more than 25 years at its Hayling Park site, with a long history of success in developing young footballers. The club is open to boys and girls of all ability, with numerous teams catering for everything from first-timers to serious players up to age 12.
Hayling St Andrews chairman Alex Johnson said: “The value of getting young people active and healthy is clear to see, and St Andrews has always had the feel of a community club. We look forward to next season and hope that Alan can pop by to a game or two lend our teams his support! Congratulations to all players and thanks to the contributions made by friends and families throughout the season.”
