Putting in the miles
A team of midwives from Cosham’s Queen Alexandra Hospital (QA) are training hard between shifts as they prepare to tackle the Great South Run.
The group of 21 midwives, two student midwives and a maternity support worker from QA are hoping to raise enough money to refurbish a room used for bereavement on the labour ward by taking on the 10-mile run in Portsmouth on Sunday 23rd October.
Charlotte Burley, one of the midwives running, said: “Our bereavement family room is a space which means a lot to those who use it – and we really want to make it a special and homely environment as possible.
“The run is going to be a struggle for most of us, so we’re training really hard between shifts to build our strength up. So far we’re actually really enjoying it.
“A newly-refurbished room will make a huge an impact on the relationship we are able to have with bereaved parents, and we’re hoping that they’ll be able to make the most of the space once the refurb is complete.”
