Calling all cheese lovers!

By Poppy Baker

Back by popular demand after the huge success last year is Winchester’s Cheese & Chilli Festival… the perfect way to heat up our dreary English summer!

Calling all cheese lovers, the festival, which takes place on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August, is a celebration of all things in relation to this moreish food stuff! With vast amounts of cheese for you to sample and buy - including locally and regionally-made products - you really will be spoilt for choice when wandering around the delight that is this festival.

If this alone catches your fancy, then the rest of what is planned should stop you in your tracks…

A local cheese expert will discuss everything from the origins of cheese to various production techniques, plus there’s a free wine masterclass (as well as plenty of wine to try…)

Plus, there’ll be a huge selection of chillies and chilli products to test and purchase, as well as a whole chilli eating competition. If you don’t feel up to the challenge, then simply grab a drink and sit and watch, for it’s bound to be entertaining!

If testing the chillies gets too much for you, cool your palette with a beer from the local brewery, Downton Brewery. Meanwhile, Dorset Mobile Bar’s fantastic Inflatable Pub will be serving a wide selection of drinks including cider, wine, seasonal cocktails and soft drinks.

For the kids, there will be a vast array of free or cheap activities, a few of which include rides, face painting and magic shows. And there’s sure to be something which will take your fancy at the huge selection of craft and shopping stalls, selling everything from traditional gifts and products, to unusual and individual handcrafted creations.

The event takes place from 10am-5pm on both days, and tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for seniors – kids go free. For more details, visit
