Mental health support
The King’s Arms is seeking support from the community to expand and initiate a significant provision to serve the mental health needs of young people in and around Petersfield.
There is massive stress for all young people from: school testing, peer pressure, cyber and actual bullying, family stress, family break up… the list goes on. We at the King’s Arms already offer support to young carers, children with special needs and many others who often receive weekly mentoring.
John Callaghan, chairperson at The King’s Arms, explains: “I am looking to raise resources to provide qualified staff and volunteers who could offer more specific training to everyone involved in working with young people in the voluntary sector.
“I should like to see us cut the waiting list for NHS appointments regarding mental health issues by creating a partnership with the Childhood and Adolescent Mental Health Team and offering our help.
“As a professional, working with young people in this area for nearly 40 years I believe we could train and deliver support directly to the young person as soon as concerns are raised. This would dramatically help parents, carers and young people and avoid damaging long waits for appointments.”
