A warm welcome
A willing band of volunteers came together to breathe new life into the old parcel office at Petersfield train station.
As part of Community First’s Employee Volunteering Scheme, Pfizer - a large pharmaceutical company based in New Lane Havant - spent the day clearing out and painting the disused parcel office, which has been used as a store room for the last decade. Volunteers also planted flowers in giant pots outside the station.
The aim of the initiative is to create a mini welcome centre for local people and tourists arriving in Petersfield wanting to explore the South Downs National Park.
Clare Hedgecock, from Pfizer, said: “It has been fun being involved in this makeover and it is great to see this unique building being put back into use for the community and visitors of the South Downs National Park.”
Janet Duggan, from Community First, commented: “It is fantastic to see businesses supporting community projects and would welcome anyone that would like to volunteer in the new welcome centre to get involved.”
