The Elephant Runner
Asperger’s, anxiety and depression.
Just three of the many aspects of mental health that Clanfield’s Rachel Turner is looking to focus on by making a film raising awareness of the battles she, and many other people, face every day.
Rachel, who is beginning her preparations for the 2017 London Marathon, is running on behalf of mental health charity MIND dressed as ‘Ellie the Elephant’ in a nod to the charity’s Elefriends forum where people can talk anonymously and honestly about their highs, lows and experiences.
She is also looking for a local film-maker to document her progress.
“Most people who meet me, or even know me quite well, have no idea - like a lot of people with mental health issues, I hide things pretty well,” Rachel explains. “I’m currently classed as ‘obese’ and it's tough to run in public knowing people will judge you. I'm hoping the film will show a physical transformation as I train as well.
“Why a professionally made film and not just video selfies? I want this film to be seen far and wide on social media, local news, anywhere. I want MIND to be able to distribute the video to inspire other people to run for them and help raise more funds.”
Rachel has set a £3,000 target through website www.gofundme.com/theelephantrunner with a third going towards the hiring of a film-maker, who would ideally be a local student.
Any remaining funds will go to MIND while sponsorship will also be greatly appreciated. Anyone who is interested in helping can visit the above link or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
