Caring for the habitat

A team of local volunteers from a Havant company dedicated their time and efforts to improving the habitat at Billy’s Lake in Waterlooville.

As part of their volunteering programme and on-going commitment to supporting the local community the team of 13 from Lockheed Martin UK, an advanced technology company, gave up their day off to coppice an overgrown area to make a better habitat for reptiles and invertebrates.

Ross Powlesland, managing director of Military Solutions at Lockheed Martin in Havant, said: “It’s heartening for me to be able to bring a team of volunteers who are giving their time and energy in order to protect and manage an area of natural habitat for the wildlife and the local community to enjoy.”

The Billy’s Lake Project is managed by The Acorn Community Centre and works with local schools, colleges, probation, Job Centre, The About Turn Project and Off The Hook Fishing Club.
