DIY Rocket Launch!
You may have seen the hurriedly but lovingly made DIY rockets being launched on the Avenue in the summer, spraying an excited group of young people with water. This was the culmination of a week’s worth of fun at the Kings Arms youth centre.
It was a celebration for those leaving junior school to go on to year 7 at senior school after a holiday club focussed on preparation for the transition.
Staff from the Kings Arms say there has been a notable increase in levels of anxiety in the young people and such a significant time could be a trigger for young people.
Having the space to explore feelings through fun at Kings Arms was a positive way to tackle this issue as it arose. Children who thought they would only like to come for a couple of days ended up staying the whole week as they had fun, found new friends and felt comfortable.
Parents fed back ‘high praise’ and ‘many thanks’ for the impact on their children. The staff had a great time too and are pleased to see those same year 7s and more come along to After School Club which is on every day straight after school finishes for 2 hours, for any senior school children, and is free!
