Performing Arts (Panto season just ahead)
With Christmas just around the corner, we’re feeling another panto season coming on (oh yes we are!). Nothing quite gets you in the mood for the festive spirit like a pantomime and plenty of laughter with friends and family. We are very lucky that there are always plenty of pantomime performances on offer in our local area – try The Phoenix Theatre in Bordon or Portsmouth Guildhall to appreciate some great local talent.
However, performing arts is not merely seasonal. There are so many opportunities to get involved all year round. Whether you would like to be on the stage or backstage by running the box office or stage-managing. Even being a member of the audience is vital to supporting the performing arts community in your local area.
Research has found that performing arts really benefit the development of children. Stagecoach performing arts schools offer school holiday workshops for 4-18 year olds in Liphook, Winchester, Chichester and Havant. These offer the perfect opportunity to give your children a taste for performing, to make friends and develop new skills without committing to paying for months of classes. No experience is required, just the motivation to try your best!
Maybe you are talented in drama, dance, singing or music and up for a challenge? Alton College & South Downs College both offer full time courses in Performing Arts which are perfect for those who are seeking a career in music theatre.
Or do you have a creative flair for clothing, costume or make up? Eastleigh College offers flexible part-time courses to develop your talent in theatrical make up, hair and special effects.
If you have a passion for dance, join one of the many specialist dance schools locally that provide ranging styles at different talent levels - whether its just for fun or with a West End career in mind, there is so much support on offer. Or if music is your thing – try learning a new instrument, join your local choir or start up a band.
The ability to have fun whilst expressing yourself and gaining a great confidence boost makes getting involved in performing arts even more rewarding. So why not get involved?
