RNLI Have a busy Saturday in September
Hayling Lifeboats went out 3 times on Saturday 30 September, to tow a yacht home, to rescue a 93 year old dinghy sailor and finally to look for 3 men lost in the gathering darkness.
A 25 ft. yacht lost steering whilst crossing Hayling Bay. We found the vessel, set up a tow and took her to the yacht’s mooring in the Bosham Channel.
Almost before the crew were changed a call came to go to a 93 year old man who had capsized his Gull dinghy west of the Bar Beacon. We reached the man who had been in the water a while and who was being helped by a fishing boat. It was evident once the man was recovered from the water that he needed to get ashore quickly, so the lifeboat returned to the station and the man was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Happily he was released later that day.
Finally as it was getting dark we went up the Thornham Channel to three young men who had purchased a boat, taken it out and tried to sail back onto their mooring. When they couldn’t do so they called for help and we found 3 wet and cold men in a boat! We took the boat to its mooring, then the men to the lifeboat station where once checked over they were taken home by our paramedic.
