Scout Association calls for more adult volunteers

The Scout Association is calling on people to volunteer at their local scout group offering fun, challenge and adventure to young people.

Hampshire is the largest county in the UK for membership in scouting.

With 25,000 members this is broken down in to 18,350 youngsters, 4,150 volunteer leaders and 2,500 supporters.

There are at least 2,800 young people wanting to join therefore suggesting more adults are required to be a part of having a positive impact in the lives of so many.

Hampshire Scout’s membership has shown successive year-on-year growth since 2005, increasing by more than 35 per cent.

A spokesperson for scouting in Hampshire says the popularity with scouting needs to be met.

They said: “There is so much on offer to members of scouting. This includes young people and adult volunteers.

“The movement offers so much opportunity for people to explore, make new friends, and have fun.

“From archery through to zorbing the activities are endless and there is certainly never a dull moment in Scouts.”
