Councillors pledge to do all they can to support ferry link
We will aim to try and secure a bus link and thousands of pounds in subsidy cash for the valued Hayling Island ferry service.
That’s the message from local councillors who have vowed to aim and support its future.
Ongoing discussions with Havant and Hampshire councillors, along with the skipper and supporters of the Hayling Ferry, in January highlighted the prospects of the service.
The urgent meeting was called by organisers of the valued service, who have previously criticised the lack of supporting transport links to its jetties at Hayling Island and Eastney.
In a statement at www.haylingferry.net, Councillor Tim Pike, cabinet lead for infrastructure at Havant Borough Council, has agreed to initiative talks with Stagecoach for a bus service to the Ferry on Hayling side.
Hampshire County Council councillor Lance Quantrill applied to the County Council, to financially support the Hayling Ferry operation on a similar basis to the £75,000 p.s deal recently agreed with the operator of the Hythe Ferry at Southampton.
A follow up meeting monitoring the progress will be held on February 7.
