HMS Queen Elizabeth expected to leave Portsmouth today
The Royal Navy has confirmed HMS Queen Elizabeth is expected to sail from Portsmouth later today.
A post on Twitter by the Portsmouth Naval Base the Royal Navy said the 65,000 tonne carrier is due to leave the city at 12:40pm today (Friday 2nd February).
This morning the naval base tweeted: ‘Want to see the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carrier @HMSQnlz? She is due to sail today from Portsmouth Naval Base at 1240 for her rotary wing trials #hmsqnlzatsea.’
The Directory Group believes the firefighting system on board was accidentally triggered, causing jets of water to spray into the warships hanger.
