Restaurant Review: Gandhi Tandoori Hayling Island
Gandhi Tandoori Restaurant, based on Hayling Island, offers a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and flavoursome food. The Directory Group’s Karen Marchant highlights her experience of dining at the restaurant…
As soon as my friend and I arrived we were immediately welcomed by the manager and ushered to our seats. There was a strong sense of appreciation for our custom, as if we had regularly dined at the restaurant.
Impressively, for a Monday evening the restaurant was busy. There was a real buzz within the atmosphere and the takeaways appeared to be speeding out of the door.
Evidently, the staff are attentive in their approach. The aroma of fresh spices and the sound of a busy kitchen contributed to the ambience of numerous people enjoying themselves.
We began our evening sipping on a crisp glass of House White Wine (bottle £9.50) which was complimented by a tray of poppadums’ and fresh onion chutney, mint sauce and mango chutney. Flicking through our menu, my friend and I were spoiled for choice with the excellent range of delicious sounding dishes.
Diving straight in to the main course, we opted for a recommendation: my friend enjoyed the Lamb Amritsar, at £7.95, and I had chosen the Padina Lamb at £8.95.
The knowledge the staff had of each dish was impressive. The Lamb Amritsar is a light and smooth creamy curry with a delicious sweet and sour twist - ideal for those with a delicate palate. We were informed this dish is typically found in South India as the weather is warmer therefore the curries tend to be milder. The smell was excellent.
The curry I chose offered a gentle kick. The Padina Lamb is a spicy curry cooked with garden mint, fresh cream, green chillies and freshly ground spices. The meat was incredibly tender, and the spices burst in your mouth leaving a tingling and welcomed sensation. This meal is a North East Indian dish which was truly delightful.
Both dishes were sufficient in their portion size when accompanied with light and fluffy Mushroom Pulau (£2.80). As well as this, the potato within our Sag Aloo (£2.95) was soft and melted on the tongue with fresh spinach.
If you are seeking a pleasant evening with exceptional service, then this Hayling Island Tandoori Restaurant is an idyllic location to dine.
