Raising cash for local charities through fun community coffee events

The recently appointed Mayor of Havant played host at his first coffee morning in support of charity last month.

Councillor Peter Wade is holding a series of events throughout his term in office to raise cash for his charity appeal fund.

The Mayor’s chosen charities for 2018/19 are the Rowans Hospice, who offer end of life care, and Riverside School at Waterlooville, who support pupils from 4-11 years with special educational needs.

The coffee mornings and other events due to take place over the forthcoming year aim to be fun, with arts and craft stalls, a raffle, refreshments and the opportunity to meet new people as well as the Mayor, all while raising money.

Councillor Wade says the coffee mornings are an ideal way to bring the community together to raise cash for good causes.

He said: “These mornings are a great opportunity for me to meet with members of our community, whether they are popping in for a quick coffee or staying to enjoy the friendly atmosphere. I’m really excited to be holding these coffee mornings as Mayor and hope to see as many people as possible.”

The Mayor of Havant is the Borough’s ‘First Citizen’ and the individual holding the position changes on an annual basis when elected to the office.

The mayor chairs council meetings and selects at least one charity to support through fundraising. As a result, many residents benefit from charitable events.
