Get moving for better health at Alton fitness group
An Alton based charity dedicated to helping improve heart health, fitness and wellbeing has launched a second exercise class to get people moving.
Aimed at older ladies, the ‘Heartbeat’ sessions provide an alternative to or to supplement the gym.
The class is formed by gentle but sustained exercise to music, like zumba and dance with sufficient movement and various steps to challenge the body and mind.
Designed to exercise all areas of the body, participants are encouraged to move as much as they can while having fun.
Paula Haidon, who assists with the sessions, says the classes are so popular that the decision was made to launch a second class.
Sessions now take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Nikki Radcliffe, who oversees Alton Cardiac Rehab, says only 25 per cent of attendees at the exercise sessions at Cardiac Rehab were female.
Therefore, it was decided to provide a class particularly for ladies in a bid to redress the balance.
Anyone interested in attending a Heartbeat class will be required to complete a health questionnaire.
Generally, the Tuesday class is full, but the recently introduced sessions on Thursdays take place at 4:15pm at the Cardiac Rehab Centre, located behind Alton Sports Centre on Chawton Park Road.
