New people to form Newlands – are you one of them?

The Parish of Newlands includes parts of the Major Development Area of the West of Waterlooville that sit within Winchester City District. To give this new development a voice, a Parish Council will operate from the 1st April 2019, with local elections for the same taking place on 2nd May 2019.

In preparation for the new Council, a Shadow Parish Council has been started. This will allow the necessary administration procedures to be prepared ahead of the new Council, and more importantly, to give prospective Councillors some training on what is involved in being a Councillor.

A Councillor’s task is to bring local issues to the attention of the council, and help it make decisions on behalf of the local community. Each individual will interpret their role in different ways. Each will have different enthusiasms and interests, skills and attitudes. For example, some work with ideas while others are very practical; some like accounts while others prefer reports. The parish council needs a range of skills to work as a team.

Reading this may it may all sound complicated, but for everyone who takes up this challenge and becomes part of this team it can be a very rewarding way of supporting and serving your community – the new community of Newlands.

If you would like to be a member of the Shadow Council or stand for election in May 2019, then please contact The Clerk, Tony Daniells by email at daniells2@ntlworld.com. Any resident from across the development or living within 3 miles of the Parish boundary will be eligible to become a Councillor.
