Cowplain dad to complete the Sahara Desert Trek in aid of JDRF

In the summer of 2017, Finley Hughes from Cowplain was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at just 9-years old, which was a huge shock and meant a complete lifestyle change for the Hughes family.

Fast forward to January 2019, and both Finley and his parents, Kay and Luke Hughes, have adapted amazingly well to living with diabetes, and Finley certainly doesn’t let it hold him back from singing, dancing, or anything else!

The Hughes family are now dedicated to raising as much money as possible for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) to support other people with this illness. JDRF fund vital research to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes, working with the government to accelerate research in the UK and globally.

Kay and Luke have already raised over £334 for this fantastic charity with the help of local businesses including One Stop at Hart Plain Avenue who held a raffle and collected £257, and Jigsaw Nursery in Rowlands Castle, ran by Finley’s nan Lorraine Byrant, who raised £56 towards JDRF.

In May 2019, Luke Hughes will be completing the Snowdon Triple Challenge to raise more funds for JDRF, and in November will be travelling to Morocco to trek the Sahara Desert.
