British Street Food Awards supported by Hellmann’s makes a triumphant return to Portsmouth

The world’s toughest street food competition returned to Portsmouth in May, with thousands of visitors enjoying some of the best street food the south has to offer. Hosted at Gunwharf Quays, 13 traders competed for a place in the London finals.

Yvonne Clay, Senior Marketing Manager at Gunwharf Quays, said: “Once again, the British Street Food Awards supported by Hellmann’s proved to be one of the most popular events in our calendar. Thousands of guests took the opportunity to take advantage of extra discounts in our outlet stores, stopping off to dine on delicious street food, and making the most of the Bank Holiday weekend by the water.”

Popular traders included Portsmouth’s very own Need Street Food and Dolly; the world’s smallest food truck, a converted Citroen 2Cv serving dishes made from West Country free range eggs. It was Indian Street Food and Turo Turo who were named joint winners by the judges, securing a spot in the London finals later this year. They will be joined by People’s Choice, Pabellon, who were picked for their arepas and avocado salads.

The final of the British Street Food Awards supported by Hellmann’s will be held in London on 13th – 14th September, with the winners going on to represent Britain in the finals of the 2019 European Street Food Awards in Malmo.
