A new look for Hampshire’s Twisted Nose Gin

A new look for Hampshire’s Twisted Nose Gin

Winchester Distillery has unveiled a stunning new design for its flagship gin, Twisted Nose. Using 20% less glass and 95% less plastic, Twisted Nose is now presented in a bespoke bottle that ripples and refracts like the surface of a Hampshire chalk stream, capturing the natural habitat of where it’s made.

The award-winning spirit is gently distilled with fresh, peppery watercress, grown just outside the distillery door in pure chalk streams, to give it a unique and uplifting twist.

The bottom of the new bottle proudly states in raised glass ‘Made in Hampshire’, whilst the new closure, which was a screw cap, is now a beautiful oak stopper. Originally launched five years ago as Winchester Distillery’s first spirit, the new branding is hoped to elevate the gin from a firm favourite in the South of England to a UK-wide and international brand.

The concept for the bottle, branding and website was the work of Surrey based Valiant Design, who wanted to create a vibrant celebration of provenance and place that also captured the elegance of Twisted Nose.

Paul Bowler, owner of Winchester Distillery, comments: “Twisted Nose was the first gin I created, which launched back in 2014. With the growth of the business and successful crowdfunding campaign earlier this year, it was the right time to reinvigorate Twisted Nose. The new design perfectly captures all the key elements of our delicious, flagship gin and will help us take it to a new level.”

Renowned for its nose-tickling tones of pepper and mustard, the botanical name for watercress, Nasturtium officinale, literally translates as “twisted nose”, which was the inspiration for the unusual name.

Hampshire watercress is combined with juniper and eight other carefully selected botanicals, including coriander seed grown in the South Downs and lavender from Long Barn in Alresford to produce Twisted Nose. The final result is a herbaceous yet delicately floral dry gin, beginning with soft sweet citrus notes from pink grapefruit, then some spicy undertones, finishing with a peppery sparkle from the fresh watercress.

Twisted Nose is available in the new 70cl bottle from mid November 2019 at an RRP of £37.95. Available direct via the website (pre-orders now available), via Master of Malt and many independent spirits merchants. For more information about Twisted Nose Gin, please visit www.twistednose.co.uk
