Chawton House launches new exhibition for Christmas that remembers festive traditions of the past
Celebrating Christmas from 21 November, Chawton House will host an exhibition and series of events and activities on select openings throughout the festive season.
Discover Christmas traditions of the House from times gone by. Learn how the Austen and Knight families celebrated Christmas, and how women writers wrote for and about the festive season.
Activities for children and families will run over the weekends leading up to Christmas, starting with biscuit making on 7 and 8 December during the Christmas Fayre. On 14 and 15 is Christmas card making, on 21 and 22 is Christmas boxes and on 27, 28 and 29 is paper Christmas wreaths.
For the first time ever, Christmas at Chawton will run throughout the season with these special festive openings, 11am – 4pm:

The Old Kitchen Tea Room will have a festive menu and the shop will be filled with seasonal delights and stocking fillers.

Browse the stalls selling handmade and local produce, enjoy a mince pie or three, take part in festive family activities and meet Father Christmas in his grotto.
