THE RISE OF THE SOBER-STAR: TEN ALCOHOL-FREE CELEBS

Every year October comes around and people across the world look to better their bodies and minds, by saying no to the booze, and yes to the health kick! Sober October can be the gateway to becoming completely teetotal – especially for some of our favourite stars.

Over the years there has been a rapid rise in people taking part in Sober October – a staggering 60,000 people signed up through the official website last year[1]! Although, the suspected number is much higher, due to most people doing it in a personal capacity.

Not to mention, Gen Z is more health conscious than ever. We have seen a decline in alcohol consumption through the generations, with only a mere 15% of Gen Z reporting drinking alcohol at least once a week[2]!

Going sober for just the month of October can result in health benefits[3] such as:

Increased energy
Improved sleep
Increased concentration
Lower cholesterol
Lower risk for cancer
More emotional control
Less irritability and anxiety
Improved immune system

With all these health benefits it’s no surprise some of our favourite celebs switched to a sober lifestyle – and we aren’t talking about just for one month. Let’s look at some stars and what they have to say about being sober. Some might even surprise you…

Blake Lively – "Drinking is just something that I genuinely don't have a desire for."
Daniel Radcliffe – "Being sober, it’s lovely. I barely think about it [alcohol]"
Jim Carrey – "I rarely drink coffee. I'm very serious about no alcohol, no drugs. Life is too beautiful."
Leona Lewis – “I don’t drink, I hate the taste of alcohol. When my debut single [Bleeding Love] went to No.1, I celebrated with non-alcoholic champagne.”
Calvin Harris – "I wasn't an alcoholic or anything like that, but it was clearly affecting what I do. My live shows are a million times better now. If you drink, you can't even remember if it's a good show or not — and that's probably for the best, because it would have been rubbish because I'd have been drunk and not making any sense."
Naomi Campbell – “I gave up drinking alcohol, not drinking makes me a lot happier.”
Jennifer Hudson – "I've never had a drink in my life. I’ve never been interested. Nobody ever believes it.”
Kim Kardashian – "I have such a close family… I think you know my sisters do enough drinking to kind of fill up the whole family."
Tyra Banks – “I feel like I’ve been very lucky because I don’t really have an addictive personality. I’ve never had any drugs, and I had a little taste of alcohol when I was 12 years old, but that’s about it.”
Rumer Willis – “My decision to become sober wasn’t out of a need necessarily, it was more just that I did ‘sober January’ and I just decided to keep going.”

Sober doesn’t have to mean missing out on fun. There’s more on offer than just lukewarm pop and tap water and Amplify is here to show you just that!
